The Department of CNS Research at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma GmbH & Co. KG announces 1 PhD position in the in vivo Parkinson's disease Laboratory to be filled immediately. The position is available for three years.
We focus our research on the neuroprotective and neurodegenerative mechanisms in animal modeis for Parkinson's disease and the development of new therapeutic approaches stopping disease progression and aiming at functional improvement of motor dysfunction (please see Schapira et al., 2006, Novel pharmacological targets for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Nat Rev Drug Discov).
Primary responsibility of the candidate will include handling of rats and mice. analyzing dopaminergic markers, stereotaxic lesions, functional measures of motor behaviour, and using techniques such as AAV gene transfer, LC-MS/MS anaiysis of biomarkers and immunohistochemistry.
The ideal candidate has propensity to work with rats and mice, and is willing to learn in vivo neuropharmacology techniques. Previous hands-on laboratory experience in in vivo neuropharmacology would be highly beneficial. Candidates should have a Masters degree (or equivalent) in biology, pharmacology, pharmacy or related field.
