Phoniatrics and paediatric audiology continues to be an important point of contact for developmental abnormalities in the area of speech and language. The age range for speech examinations extends from around 2 years of age to adolescence. Diagnostics are carried out using common standardised test procedures and are supplemented by clinical observations and a detailed speech therapy or speech psychology anamnesis with the parents. In addition to discussing the findings and counselling parents, we may also initiate the necessary therapies and offer follow-up checks. We refer parents directly to local facilities, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, early counselling centres, socio-paediatric centres, psychologists and school psychological counselling centres.
