Description of the Project

Schools should guarantee children and young people access to a potentially protective and supportive environment, therefore many people affected by sexual abuse dare to talk about their experiences in this environment for the first time. But school can also be a place where sexual assaults take place. For this reason, schools have been entrusted with numerous tasks in the field of prevention of sexual abuse in recent years.

In order to support schools in dealing professionally with the topic of sexual child abuse, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport of Baden-Württemberg and the Center for School Quality and Teacher Training of Baden-Württemberg are supporting the development and evaluation of the online course "Sexual abuse and sexual assaults - child protection from the school's point of view" as part of the initiative "School against sexual violence" (https://www.schule-gegen-sexuelle-gewalt.de/) of the Independent Representative for Questions of Sexual Child Abuse (UBSKM) in Germany.

The aim of this online training program is to offer a further education on the subject of sexual child abuse and child protection in the school context based on a well-founded and up-to-date knowledge. Teachers and employees of the school administration, school psychological services and school social work should be encouraged and supported to engage professionally with the complex and emotional subject of sexual child abuse. Furthermore, this online course provides information as well as impulses for the (further) development of child protection concepts in schools.

The training is modularly structured and consists of three basic modules. A further module dealing with specific contexts of sexual child abuse (e. g. context peer violence) and a module, which addresses management staff and the administration of the school, are offered optionally after editing the basic modules. The course contains basic and legal texts, video clips and interactive case studies.

Participation in the online training program is free of charge during the project period from 2020 to 2028.
