In a constantly changing world, Ulm University Hospital faces major challenges: demographic change, medical and technological progress, and evolving legal frameworks shape our day-to-day work. We can only overcome these challenges by working together – across all our sites, in an interdisciplinary and cross-professional manner.
Our mission statement provides a unifying foundation for this: it defines shared values and provides guidance for our day-to-day work.
This creates a working and care environment characterised by transparency, reliability and mutual trust – for staff, patients and their families alike.
We build trust through reliability
We do what we say – and say what we do. We keep our word, make well-informed decisions and take responsibility for our actions.
We are shaping the future – together and in a pioneering way
We act with foresight, challenge established practices and build on existing knowledge. Continuous development and innovation are a shared responsibility for us and ensure our leading role in healthcare.
We work as a network – across borders
We actively seek dialogue and think beyond existing boundaries. In doing so, we bring together different professional groups and disciplines and promote networking within the region and beyond.

We develop ourselves – and others
We are curious, give each other feedback and share knowledge. For us, leadership means recognising and nurturing potential, and inspiring people to excel both professionally and personally.
We take responsibility
When we spot a problem, we take action. We show initiative, make suggestions or ensure that the issue is brought to the attention of those who can resolve it.
We treat one another as equals
We value every person equally and demonstrate this in the way we interact with one another. We listen, take other perspectives seriously and treat one another with respect.
We practise appreciation in our everyday lives
We show appreciation and support one another. In doing so, we treat one another with mutual interest and empathy.
We communicate openly and in a solution-focused way
We address problems head-on – even when it’s uncomfortable. We listen actively, share relevant information and provide feedback: honestly and constructively.
We use resources thoughtfully and effectively
We deploy time, financial resources and materials in a targeted manner to achieve the greatest possible impact. For us, efficiency means setting priorities, establishing clear processes and working together to find pragmatic solutions.
In addition to the nine cultural principles, we have drawn up a detailed mission statement.
This sets out in detail how we intend to conduct ourselves in relation to various stakeholder groups (patients, staff, the Faculty of Medicine, members of the public, partners and the State of Baden-Württemberg).
