New publication: High reproducibility in DNA methylation profiling of CNS tumours

The manuscript “Interlaboratory performance testing on EPIC v2.0 CNS tumor profiling demonstrates high reproducibility of tumor classification but reveals the need for the development of a standardized interlaboratory validation protocol,” led by Katrin Mauch-Mücke and Markus J. Riemenschneider (Institute of Neuropathology, University Hospital Regensburg & BZKF) as well as Christin Siewert and David Capper (Institute of Neuropathology, Charité University Medicine Berlin), to which we contributed as a co-author, has been published in the journal Brain Pathology.

In an international interlaboratory study, this research examines the technical reproducibility and comparability of DNA methylation profiling of CNS tumors using EPIC v2.0/Brain Tumor Classifier. The results showed a high degree of agreement in tumor classification, but also highlighted a continued need for standardized procedures for interpreting and reporting CNV profiles. 

It is precisely these large-scale collaborative projects that are of particular importance, as they provide the necessary data sets and opportunities for interlaboratory comparisons to make reliable statements about the diagnostic reproducibility and standardization of modern molecular pathology methods.
