Of Mice, Horses and Humans: Bornavirus Encephalitis at the Faculty Day

At this year’s Faculty Day, Prof. Dr. Friederike Liesche-Starnecker, together with other newly or recently appointed professors, provided insights into current research topics in Ulm University Medicine. The presentations highlighted the thematic diversity of the Medical Faculty and showed the broad scope of current medical research in Ulm.

In her lecture “Of Mice, Horses and Humans – Tracing Bornavirus Encephalitis”, Prof. Dr. Liesche-Starnecker presented a rare but medically highly relevant disease: human Bornavirus encephalitis. Her contribution combined scientific depth with an accessible presentation and addressed not only colleagues from neuropathology, but also students and interested guests from the Medical Faculty.

Following the presentations, the Faculty Day offered opportunities for questions, discussions and personal exchange in a relaxed atmosphere. The event thus highlighted the diversity of research at the Medical Faculty of Ulm and showed how current neuropathological questions can contribute to a better understanding of severe diseases of the central nervous system.
