An der Sektion für Kognitive Elektrophysiologie der Klinik für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie III werden kognitive Prozesse und deren Psychopathologie bei psychiatrischen Erkrankungen anhand von Verhaltensexperimenten sowie anhand der Aufzeichnung der Gehirnaktivität mit ereigniskorrelierten Potentialen (EKP) und funktioneller Magnetresonanztomographie (fMRT) sowie mit transkranieller Magnetstimulation (TMS) untersucht.

Die Sektion ist mit einem 64-Kanal-EEG- Verstärker ausgestattet, der eine hochauflösende Aufzeichnung der elektrischen Hirnaktivität erlaubt. Auf der Grundlage von Quellenanalysen der Oberflächenpotentiale können dann Rückschlüsse darüber gezogen werden, welche Hirnstrukturen zu welchem Zeitpunkt durch einen kognitiven Prozeß aktiviert werden. In Kooperation mit der Sektion Neuropsychologie und funktionelle Bildgebung an der Klinik für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie III werden Untersuchungen mit fMRT durchgeführt. Für Experimente mit TMS wird mit der Sektion für Neurostimulation der Klinik kooperiert.


Die inhaltlichen Forschungsinteressen der Sektion für Kognitive Elektrophysiologie betreffen:

  • Aufmerksamkeit und kognitive Kontrolle

Im Rahmen eines kognitiv-neurowissenschaftlichen Ansatzes werden psychologische Experimentalmethoden mit elektrophysiologischen Verfahren zur Erforschung kognitiver Prozesse kombiniert. Durch die Kombination von EEG mit fMRT wird angestrebt, eine möglichst genaue Information über den zeitlichen und räumlichen Verlauf von Gehirnaktivierungen zu gewinnen, die durch spezifische kognitive Vorgänge ausgelöst werden. Die funktionale Bedeutung eines Hirnareals für Informationsverarbeitungsprozesse wird mit TMS erfasst. Über die grundlagenwissenschaftliche Ausrichtung hinaus bietet die Sektion für Kognitive Elektrophysiologie Studierenden der Medizin, der Psychologie oder naturwissenschaftlich/technischer Studiengänge die Möglichkeit, im Rahmen von Doktor- oder Diplomarbeiten bzw. von Praktika einen Einblick in die kognitive Neurowissenschaft und deren Anwendung in der psychiatrischen Forschung zu erhalten.

 

Arbeitsgruppen an der Sektion

Konkrete und abstrakte Begriffe verkörpert in modalen Gehirnsystemen unterstützt durch die Deutsche  Forschungsgemeinschaft

Klassische Modelle gehen davon aus, dass begriffliches Wissen in einem amodalen Format repräsentiert ist, das von sensorisch-motorischen und introspektiven Systemen getrennt ist. Neuere Modelle der verkörperten (oder „grounded“) Kognition hingegen schlagen vor, dass Begriffe verkörpert sind – in dem Sinne, dass Interaktionen mit der Umwelt ihre begrifflichen Gedächtnisspuren in verteilten, modalen Gehirnsystemen hinterlassen, die mit Wahrnehmung, Handlungen oder Introspektion verbunden sind. In neurophysiologischen Experimenten zeigen wir, dass der Zugriff auf Begriffe eine teilweise Reaktivierung von Gehirnaktivität mit sich bringt, wie sie bei der Wahrnehmung von Objekten, der Ausführung motorischer Handlungen sowie der Introspektion von Emotionen, mentalen Zuständen und sozialen Konstellationen auftritt. Wir beobachteten eine Beteiligung solcher erfahrungsbezogener Gehirnsysteme nicht nur bei Objektbegriffen (z. B. „Tisch“), sondern auch bei abstrakten Alltagsbegriffen (z. B. „Gerechtigkeit“) und bei abstrakten wissenschaftlich-psychologischen Begriffen (z. B. „Konditionierung“). Bei abstrakten Begriffen spielten modalitätsspezifische Gehirnsysteme, die mit der Introspektion von Emotionen, mentalen Zuständen und sozialen Konstellationen verbunden sind, eine besondere Rolle. Im klinischen Kontext untersuchen wir veränderte semantische Verarbeitungsprozesse bei schizophrenen Patienten als Grundlage für schizophrene Denkstörungen.

"Durch Aufgabenhinweisreize induzierte Vorbereitung beim Aufgabenwechsel"

unterstützt durch die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft

Task Cues (Aufgabenhinweisreize) werden verwendet, um Personen über die Art einer bevorstehenden Aufgabe zu informieren und eine Aufgabenvorbereitung einzuleiten. Wir konnten zeigen, dass die bloße Präsentation von Task Cues, die mit einem bestimmten Task Set assoziiert sind, anschließende maskierte semantische Priming- und Aufgabenwechsel-Effekte beeinflusst. Genauer gesagt wurden alleinig durch einen Cue angezeigte, aber nicht ausgeführte Task Sets bei der Vorbereitung auf eine nachfolgende Aufgabe schnell inhibiert. Diese Effekte hingen von kontextuellen Faktoren ab, wie z. B. den Erwartungen an die Anforderungen der Aufgabenausführung. Das vorliegende Projekt erweitert diese früheren Arbeiten, indem es die Dynamik der Task Cue-induzierten Verarbeitung im Hinblick auf Flexibilität (Veränderungen über Kontexte) und Plastizität (Veränderungen im Verlauf einer experimentellen Sitzung) untersucht. Wir betrachten Cue-induzierte Verarbeitung speziell in einem Aufgabenwechsel-Design, da dieses experimentelle Paradigma ein geeignetes Instrument darstellt, um solche Prozesse in einem kontrollierten Rahmen zu untersuchen. Wir erwarten, dass die Cue-induzierte Aufgabenvorbereitung nicht in einem "Alles-oder-Nichts"-Prinzip abläuft, sondern flexibel an kontextuelle Anforderungen angepasst wird und sich im Verlauf eines Experiments verändern kann.
