Integrative Medicine Consultation at the UKU
Chronic illnesses can affect many areas of life. In addition to medical treatment, questions often arise regarding diet, exercise, sleep, stress, fatigue, lifestyle or complementary treatment options.
At the Department of Integrative Medicine at Ulm University Hospital, the doctor-led integrative medicine consultation offers people with chronic conditions the opportunity to take a holistic view of their individual situation and to work together to select suitable complementary measures.
The focus is on you and your personal symptoms, needs, resources and goals. Your current medical treatment, your life circumstances and your individual preferences are taken into account.

What topics can be discussed?
Depending on the condition and individual concerns, the focus may be on the following topics, amongst others:
- Diet and exercise
- Sleep and rest
- Stress and stress management
- Fatigue and exhaustion
- Social relationships and partnerships
- Personal sources of strength, meaning and spirituality
- Supportive complementary and naturopathic therapies, such as acupuncture and acupressure, aromatherapy, topical treatments and yoga
- Herbal medicines and dietary supplements
- Possible interactions and risks associated with complementary measures
Patient safety is a key consideration. Not every naturopathic or complementary medicine treatment is suitable for every patient. Interactions with conventional medicines and therapies can occur, particularly with herbal medicines and dietary supplements. Possible risks are therefore taken into account during the consultation.
This service is intended to complement conventional treatment, not to replace it.
Consultations can take place in person, by telephone or via video conference, as required.
Costs:
The integrative medicine consultation is a personalised medical advisory service and is offered as a self-pay service (Individual Health Service, IGeL).
The costs are generally not covered by statutory health insurance. For those with private health insurance or existing private supplementary insurance, coverage or reimbursement may be possible. We recommend clarifying this directly with your insurance provider before your appointment.
