Research focus Prof. Kornmann

Basic and translational research focuses on alterations of gastrointestinal cancers, especially colon and rectal cancer as well as pancreatic cancer. Main goals are the identification of molecular and clinical prognostic and predictive markers and the establishment of individualized tumor-tailored treatment strategies based on molecular alterations. Targets of interest are tyrosine kinase growth factors like fibroblast growth factors and their receptors as well as cytokines like interleukins and their receptors. Effects of molecular alterations on the malignant phenotype as well as on chemosensitivity are characterized and evaluated for further possible clinical use.

These interests are combined with clinical research on the field of surgical oncology of gastrointestinal cancers also focusing on colon, rectal and pancreatic cancer evaluating the effects of minimal-invasive cancer surgery and multimodal treatment of gastrointestinal cancers within clinical studies.
